Description

Dear Mr. Eybl,
My wife died of lung cancer at the age of 35, leaving me (38) and our six children behind.
Four years later, I would like to tell you what happened to me after my wife's death:
About 6-7 weeks after her death, I noticed a bean-sized lump under my left nipple. It grew slightly larger over the following days.
The area was noticeably warm and constantly slightly reddened. I became afraid.

I began searching for the cause. There was nothing in your book about breast cancer in men. So I had to pool all my acquired knowledge (including biological decoding) – and then it occurred to me:
After my wife died, I heard the same sentence several times from acquaintances:
“Man, now you have to be both mother and father at the same time.”
This sentence hurt, but it hit the nail on the head.

Now I adopted a new guiding principle:
“I AM NOT THE MOTHER!!! and ”I AM NOT THE MOTHER OF MY CHILDREN – TOUGH LUCK!"
A few days later, the spot started to itch and flake. From then on, I knew that the healing process had begun.
Today, there is no longer any sign of this SBS. The breast healed on its own.
Best regards

Comment from Björn Eybl
Thank you for this touching account of your experience—we can all empathize with how you felt.
A mother nourishes her offspring with her breast. Suddenly, YOU found yourself in the role of having to nourish. Nature expanded the milk ducts in your breast during the active phase so that any milk produced could flow out more easily.
The fact that the lump was located immediately behind the nipple indicates that the milk ducts (and not the mammary glands) were affected by SBS.
During the healing phase, the ducts swell and a lump may become palpable, with the surrounding skin becoming red and itchy.
We are delighted that you have enabled healing with the new sentence – we are happy for you.

Note from Ingmar Marquardt:
Thank you for sharing these dramatic experiences and the instructive example of SBS of the milk ducts in men. I would classify the beginning of the PCLA phase—the conflict-resolved phase—as the onset of symptoms (i.e., hardening with warmth and redness). The transition to itching and flaking represented the beginning of the PCLB phase.
