Description
About a month ago, I added a new exercise to my calisthenics routine: Nordic curls. This involves kneeling on a cushion, hooking your heels under something like a sofa, slowly lowering your upper body forwards and then trying to hold it there with as much force as possible.
When I tried it for the first time, the pressure and strain on my kneecaps was enormous! I felt it even more on my right knee than on my left. I remember thinking, ‘Oh dear, can it take this?’
Then I tried some extra padding, making the exercise doable, but I still felt a lot of pressure on my kneecaps and like they might slip out of place and just not stay put. A week ago, I did the exercise again just before New Year's Eve, with no issues with my kneecaps.
Three days later, I got up quite late without any problems. Around noon, I drove my car. During the long drive, I noticed a pain in my right knee. It was uncomfortable for the rest of the day, but I could still walk normally. That evening in bed, in full vagotonia, the pain became much stronger, so that I could no longer bend or stretch my knee on my own. It was also almost impossible to walk. The pain was concentrated at the top of my kneecap and the ligaments attached to it. Pressing on that spot caused the pain to explode. The pain improved significantly during the night and disappeared the next day just as quickly as it had come.
Since I hadn't done anything strenuous the morning before, injury was out of the question. instead, it was the conflict-resolved phase regarding the ligaments in the area of my right kneecap, where I had suddenly worried a month earlier that this area would not be able to withstand the strain. This sudden and unexpected situation caused a perceived drop in self-esteem regarding the stability of my kneecap. The feeling was only so extreme during the first exercise and was milder during the following exercises. The conflict duration was therefore quite short overall, even though there were many longer, transformed breaks in between.
The solution probably came in bed the morning before the pain started: I was probably thinking about my training and realised that the new exercises had been going well for a month now.
The same evening, after thinking about it for a long time, I realised the causal connection and was able to fall asleep relaxed and without worry, despite the intense pain.
Note: Have you also had exciting experiences with the 5BL? If so, it would be great if you could send us an anonymized report so that we can publish it in the archive and everyone can benefit from your experiences. Thank you very much!
